ONE NIGHT ON GROUND ZERO

Clyde Lewis gave attention to the video game SAD SATAN–and presumablly made it more popular than it was prior.

Last night he gave the same type of attention to another game that has been around for some time: FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S..

The show was a must listen, not only if you are interested in the latest array of pop culture items that comes with games of this nature, but also if you have kids.. Lewis even interviewed his girlfriend’s 9-year-old son about his emotional reaction to playing the demo version of the game.. Fright, to sum it up.

It is because of being a watcher of horror and a father as well that I was aware of this game.

In April of this year, entertainment sites reported that it was going to be made into a feature length film. And being familiar with the subject matter and imagery of animitronic demons, I have been doing my YouTube watching 4-year-old a parental and moral favor and keeping an eye on what he views…

The game is set in a pizza parlor that has a lot of reminders of CHUCK E CHEESE. The big difference  is at night the happy animals come alive, attempt to kill you.. you are a security guard that has to survive 5 nights. You discover children have been killed there.. you get scared.. and you are greeted with an array of images that hit you and your subconcious alike..

While  I never played it, I viewed gameplay on Youtube and decided, at that time, to attempt by best skills in shielding my innocent son from it.

But that is difficult in the modern age.

Clyde Lewis correctly pointed out last night that many of the players of the game are kids–not teenagers, but elementary students.

It’s notable and interesting that the maker of the game, Scott Cawthon, is a Christian who devoted much of life to using media to spread the word of his beliefs..

Recently he took to the web to defend himself..

Among his words:

Did you know that last year I was working at Dollar General? I worked as a cashier. I had three bosses who were all still in high school. Before that I worked at Target in the backroom freezer, unloading frozen foods. I haven’t had a successful life; and now that God has blessed me with some success, I’m doing my best to be responsible with that success. I don’t party on weekends, I don’t get drunk or sip martinis. I spend my evenings playing Megaman 3, buster only, with my kids. And I try to good with what’s been given to me.

The increased attention on the game from Grouhd Zero last night will only move it further up in the popculure sphere..

Adding to the mix: the amount of horror fans and gamers who call this one of the most effective and frightening games to have come out in some time. That is evidenced by Hollywood plans to make a film about it..

I am not a moral crusader who wants games like this banned or panned. But being a parent is the most important job a parent has.. Watchin to ensure yourminor’s eyes are not seeing something before they should is a part of that role..

As a child I saw horror and grew to love the genre. It is only as I get older that I have grown to really dislike it most of the ti.e

But that is because the ideas are vacant plots and stories, and real scares.

FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S seems different. This game, and eventual movie, appears likely to hit deep in your core, you mind, and your existence..
