Woman found to harbor infection resistant to antibiotic of last resort:
For the first time, doctors have diagnosed an American with an infection that can’t be treated with an antibiotic of last resort, an ominous development in the battle against antibiotic resistance.
Defense Department researchers diagnosed the infection in a 49-year-old woman with symptoms of a urinary tract infection who visited a clinic in Pennsylvania in April. Doctors sent her lab sample to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md..
This is a worst case scenario, according to a number of people in the medical field.. a time ahead in which bacteria is immune to all treatment.
No word on who the person is.. where, besides PA.. and what the status of the condition is.
