A new day in the life of America: As the world turns

Back int he 1980s my mother got my father a book called A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AMERICA. My dad tucked it away, and I found it. . Maybe it’s theft, but it has become one of my favorite personal possessions. The book documented one day, MAy 2, 1986. About 200 photographers scoped out scenes and sights across the United States, snapping tons of photos.. Many of them made this amazing 6 pound book. I find the idea of this book amazing.. and at the same time extremely sad. Time is gone in the blink of an eye.. I often skim through this book and think to myself of all those things that mattered so long ago in 1986, on that day.. in the lives of the people photorgaphed. I wonder often how many are still alive.. what ever became of the children in the book.. what happened to the couple slow dancing in St. Petersburg.
And I fast forward to now: We document our own lives. On Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, and Twitter.. COllectively we post millions of photos a day, if not more.. The NSA also keeps track, along with the Facebook servers that supposedly never delete anything *unless it’s deemed offensive, like women breast feeding* .. But the DAY IN THE LIFE OF AMERICA, if not the world, is now being written by us.
That doesn’t mean time is any less fleeting, however, nor does it mean that our lives are any less fast.

And speaking of time, you don’t have much of it. And it’s a magazine.

The safety net is thin.. But if it wasn’t for it, 70 million people would be starving in the streets. And that’s not a good thing–if the safety breaks for any reason, things really get bad.
