FRIDAY NIGHT WRAP..

It has been a week of bizarre.. strange.. outlandish.. and opening ceremonies..

Not too many headline exist that aren’t weird.. If it isn’t a load of power outages across Pennsylvania, where hundreds of thousands are still without electricity during a cold weekend, it’s a rare snowstorm in Oregon and Washington.. Since the topic of weather is first and foremost, there’s also some other weird happenings, such as a powerful snowblast in Japan, where a travel may come to a halt in Tokyo..  It’s the midpoint of winter. But it’s still very cold.. And perhaps that is why the timing of a New York TIMES article describing the ‘end of snow’ is coming at such a strange time.. The New York TIMES, though, also gave WOODY ALLEN a lot of space today to defend himself against some crude sexual allegations leveled at him from his step daughter..

The Winter Olympics began today.. While most things about winter games aren’t ‘scary,’ the opening ceremonies certainly were.. There seemed to be some sort of sign when children opened the Olympics, and 12 children were also on display during the Super Bowl halftime show with the god of war Mars, Bruno Mars in his case.. Concerning the opening ceremonies today, the Olympic rings weren’t fully lit, as the HORROR REPORT already showed you.. There were scenes of darkness and fog, chaos and volcanoes, and drifting ice … if the dark scenery wasn’t freakish enough, a cold-faced Vladimir Putin watched with delight, or at least a half smirk, as his nation welcomed the world.  Some wondered if we were watching a dreamlike HUNGER GAMES, or the beginning of a world event..

There were lots of empty seats as the parade of nations entered the gala event..
Maybe there’s a reason for that..
You’re on Russia’s terms now..
And being on Russia’s terms means some uncomfortable things may occur. For example, the United States may warn travelers that they will be monitored at all times in Sochi. There may also be surveillance equipment installed in your hotel shower room, as we learned today.. We can expect lots of world news coinciding with the Winter games, such as more scares over hijackings and terror.. The Olympics are always political.. we expect that. But this go around, there seems to be an extra burst of world affairs rearing ugly heads as young athletes use of 100,000 condoms in Olympics village.. When the gold medal rocks, the silver won’t knock. . . do the bronze finalists get the girls? There’s enough condoms to go around.. but maybe not enough medals..

Russia does weird stuff.. Like having weird wedding photos. Seriously, there are really odd wedding photos from Russia, some not safe for work, that may make you scratch your Olympic-filled head.. Good luck. . they just don’t make any sense..

There is a sense of ironic David Letterman-esque comedy in the fact that Jay Leno, leaving the TONIGHT SHOW, has been getting intensely good ratings over the past few months since the news hit he was going to end (for the second time) his hosting gig.. The last show aired Thursday to the highest ratings in 15 years. Leno may not be my first choice as head comedian at night, but Jimmy Fallon isn’t nearly as impressive as a comedian of the 20th century. I have learned that I am either not ‘in’ with the new generation of humor.. that or the new generation of humor just isn’t funny..

There were more booms this week.. Thursday featured some loud noises in Maryland. There were strange booms in St. Louis..There were also some in Illinois. Of course we are being told they are frost quakes.. although when they happen during warmth, we’re not heat quakes.. They have been continuing for years now.. some sound like horns like in Kiev, others just blast houses and seem to be directed at small areas. They are weird. I never heard them. Neither Linda Moulton Howe, but she sure talks about them quite a bit..

Linda Howe is a guest on Coast to Coast AM a lot. And speaking of that, this has been quite the week for the HORROR REPORT. We have been following all there is to follow concerning Art Bell for quite some time..  We have also been covering Premiere Radio firing John B Wells.. Interestingly, the article that we wrote about Bell’s comments on Wells has made ArtBell.com  and John Wells’ site.. I take some pride in that.. And it’s also worthwhile to note, as I have before, that Art Bell and John Wells fans now have something in common.. They both have a reason to unite in hatred of Premiere Radio…

And finally, though this news was from January, it was new to me when I discovered it this week. One simple photograph struck me.. The Mars Rover, Curiosity, took a photo of the view from the red planet. And it captured the pale blue dot, Earth..  Does this photo change the way you view yourself? Does it trigger an amazing bit of imagination? Does it make you feel small? Tiny.. ? It did me.. We are just a tiny dot in space, distant and bright.. And that is our home. Not go do down the Sagan road, but that’s us on that pale blue dot.. But get this, according to NASA, a human observer standing on Mars would easily see Earth and the moon as two distinct bright evening stars…

Amazing..
And something to ponder this late Friday night.
