A folk song by Gordon Lightfoot dramatized in words and music the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior.. This is the anniversary weekend of the disaster..
The haunting words of the Lightfoot song captured the emotion of the tragic event..
On November 10, 1975, Lake Superior was hit with a storm that created ocean-like waves in the water body. The Edmund Fitzgerald was traveling in the storm when the captain suddenly had difficulty with taking too much water. The people who died on the ship were crew of the ship, along with a Maritime Academy cadet.. The youngest was 21, the oldest was 63.. You can find more on the ship and the sinking here..
Lightfoot considers his song about the disaster his finest work.
The HORROR REPORT agrees..
