Blockbuster is going to be a faded memory of a generation past.. very soon.
This coming January, the store plans on closing its remaining 300 retail operations still existent. And it doesn’t stop there..
The video rental company that will soon be gone also said that by mid-December, its mail-in program will also end.
Watch em while you got em?
Be kind and rewind?
A few years ago, HOLLYWOOD VIDEO was met with the same fate..
Blockbuster attempted to reinvent itself and fashion a store more suitable for the 21st century–less personnel costs, less actual locations, and more rental kiosks and mailings..
It failed.
This is what USA TODAY reports in its latest dispatches on the end of Blockbuster:
So that’s that.
The end of an era.
Sure, streaming is king right now and those one day kiosks aren’t doing so bad.. But one day, someone will wonder, ‘whatever happened to the video rental store?’ No more late night pajama-clad car rides to buy the latest horror movie.. no more asking a worker ‘how was this movie?’ …no more “can I help you find a film.” It’s all on you. You’re the consumer. Now get to work.
Video killed the radio star.
And time killed the video store.
Goodbye Blockbuster.
We will miss you.
Now where will Elaine find her movies!?
