Most people had a family member either deceased or aging that said this: If you can watch TV, the TV can watch you. Younger people of the world laughed at those conspiratorial sentiments. Nonsense! Laughable! Ridiculous.
But with recent reports about appliances wired to work and wiring you to spy on you, those old timers may have been proven right after all these years.
WIRED magazine reports on its Danger Room Blog that CIA Director Gen. David Petraeus wants to use household devices that connect to the internet (TVs included!) to spy on you!
“Items of interest will be located, identified, monitored, and remotely controlled through technologies such as radio-frequency identification, sensor networks, tiny embedded servers, and energy harvesters — all connected to the next-generation internet using abundant, low-cost, and high-power computing,” Petraeus said, “the latter now going to cloud computing, in many areas greater and greater supercomputing, and, ultimately, heading to quantum computing.”
Well now.. TV and the Wii listening in on your conversation!? At least we can still use a blender. But don’t they make blenders now that download? Doesn’t everything download?
You download the product.
The product downloads you.
Welcome to the brave new world, mate, where silence will be golden.
